Rahel Elias
Rahel is a Scarborough-based ceramicist and documentary photographer. She has experimented with a variety of mediums, including bioplastics, sound/field recording, and other ecological-based work, which all inform her creative process. Through tactile clay sculptures and playful visual narratives, Rahel invites reflection on the interconnectedness of humans and the environment we inhabit. She has exhibited at several galleries like Toronto’s Hashtag Gallery, Whippersnapper Gallery, and Scarborough Arts, and was also commissioned to present her photo series Punk Noir at Tkaronto’s It’s Ok Studio’s storefront. Her most recent project, Earthen Kinetics, was exhibited at Island Mountain Arts in Wells, Deer Lake Gallery in Burnaby, and the fifty fifty collective, in Victoria BC. Rahel is part of a small artist collective called MULCH, composed of friends and collaborators across so-called Canada. Over the past year, they have focused on creating work that centres around collaboration and land-based practices, all of which has deeply influenced her own work.
